This paper provides a semantic assay for "or" based on naturally occurring examples. It debates against inclusivity as either semantic core or pragmatic reading for or. It advocates a subjective and procedural, rather than objective and truth-functional, meaning of or in ‘alternativity’ terms. It bids a definition of ‘alternativity’ based on the concepts of plurality, distinctness, equivalence and mutual exclusivity. It states that the contextual readings associated with or-constructions are pragmatically evolved.
