Annotation

This inquiry explores disaster metaphor use in the American media coverage of the 2008 global financial crisis. It inquires the role of diverse sub-metaphors in executing diverse pragmatic and rhetorical functions in financial news discourse. Findings state that metaphor expansion and blending could raise the popularization of specialist financial news discourse, and state that the news media was accessory in erecting the collective delusion that the financial crisis was inevitable and not induced by anyone.
