In Verona, Northern Italy, a music group (Contrada Lorì) is revaluing a local dialect by putting it to music.This paper regards the role of dialetto in the band’s musical picture of place and personhood, and regards the language ideological underpinnings of the group’s search to librate hyperlocal linguistic authenticity and cosmopolitan novelty via music.
