This article proposes a discourse-analytic inquiry of the verbs aamadan ‘come’ and raftan ‘go’ in Persian as they emerge in thirty oral elicited narratives and employs English narratives based on identical stimuli as a reference point for a comparative assay. Aamadan and raftan codify aspect, subjectivity, and the speakers’ views on certain components of the events as the stories unfold in their memories. Such choices in grammatical structures of the narratives can disclose much about the speakers’ underlying cognitive processing and conduce to the grasp of the speakers’ conceptual image of the story line.
