This inquiry explores positive low- and high-grade valuations in service encounters between clients and salesmen run in Swedish and recorded in Sweden and Finland. The valuations stand as lexical TCUs, and their supply is marked by demoted prosody and speaker’s embodied shift away from the other. The assay unveils distributional contrasts in the interactional practice: Customers make task-completing valuations more often than salesmen, and high-grade valuations are more frequent in the data from Sweden than from Finland. The data are in Sweden Swedish and Finland Swedish with English translations.
