This study uses language memoirs to supply an account of North American womens' foreign language learning experiences in South Asia. In addition to typical matters of pedagogical concern like the long-term process of language learning and the role of affect, this study debates the language ideologies of Western learners in South Asia as well as literacy evolution in novel orthographies.
