This paper proposes two informative and contrastive views based on the experiences of two Chinese doctoral students at a big Canadian university. Above all, it centers on the students’ national and transnational ideologies, identities, and future prospects, and how these formative experiences and positionalities molded their views, aims, and motivations pending their study abroad.
