This inquiry states that international teaching assistants (ITAs)' lack of certain teaching rapport norms toward American students may be induced by their opposition to the expected instructor identity and/or their mixed feelings about how committed they should be as to the expected instructor identity. The findings have pedagogical effects for ITA training, second language learning, and English for specific aims.
