This article explores the institutionalization of language ideologies via language policy-making in education and, especially, via language of instruction. It displays that the dynamics introduced by multilingualism in education have had a strengthening impact on previous language ideologies on bilingualism and, lastly, have worsened the language conflict. Finally, it debates how language of instruction serves as a terrain for language competition and as part of a wider battle for language policy and institutional power.
