Annotation

This paper investigates child agency in Ethiopian and Colombian refugee families in New Zealand. Children affect their parents’ socialisation practices via metalinguistic comments, medium requests, language brokering, sociocultural socialisation and majority language teaching. It is asserted that child agency is most profitably theoretically interpreted within a Bourdieusian framework of structure and agency.
