This article explores the individual agency exerted by diverse actors in the process of language planning for multi-dialectism in Shanghai, China. Language acquisition planning is taken on as the analytical frame to distinguish the multiple roles individual actors have played in fostering the use and acquisition of the Shanghai dialect.
