Annotation

Five elements of cohesion are analyzed: contextualization, relatedness of form, relatedness of reference, semantic connection, thematic connection. M. shows how linguistic devices such as locative and temporal markers, substitution, ellipsis, lexical collocation, pronouns, conjunction and the theme marker '-wa' are used for cohesion in the Japanese narrative.
