Annotation

This article offers an account for maximal superlative modifiers (e.g. at most), based on a corpus analysis of two Hebrew maximum modifiers: le-xol ha-yoter 'at most' and maksimum 'maximally/at most'. It argues for three associated sub-constructions, all with an argumentative function. Maximum and minimum constructions are both employed to construct non-optimal arguments.
