This paper employs conversation analysis to study the greetings that happen just before the start of a stage-managed White House media event. It first operationalizes and illustrates the constellation of co-constructed practices that allow a ‘greeter’ to pivot between multiple ‘greeteds’, and it demonstrates how such an activity reconstitutes participants' situated social identities. It then broadens the scope of the study to consider how such interactional practices contribute to Trump's political persona.
