Annotation

A case study of informal multilectal behaviours in Namibia, where indigenous languages co-exist with English and Afrikaans, the country’s lingua francas, involves informal intra-ethnic interactions of five Namibian ethnicities. A turn-by-turn analysis establishes that partakers’ code-switching patterns possess stylistic potential. An ethnographic perspective is also taken to confirm whether this stylistic potential translates into sociolinguistic indexicalities.
