M. examines whether the conditions specified by Strawson (1964: 'Intention and convention in speech acts') and Schiffer (1972: 'Meaning') have in fact to be added to the model of communication outlined by Grice (1957: 'Meaning') in order to be appropriate to an adequate explication of the concept of 'attempt to communicate'.
