Pragmatics describes linguistic activity which is based on the same laws as all human activity. Production and consumption of an utterance or text is not a process in vacuo, but one that develops in, and according to, the interactants' actual condition as producers and consumers in a concrete societal setting. This also holds for production and consumption of linguistic theory.
