Annotation

M. explores some aspects of the phenomenon of presupposition in order to determine how presuppositions should be treated in a theory of grammar intended to give an account of meaning. Conclusion: presupposition ought to be represented as the complement of an abstract performative verb of presupposing. Revised in J.L.Morgan (1973: 'How can you be in two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?').
