No earlier research has been done on the placeholders in Ryukyuan varieties. This paper aims to describe several types of PH in Yoron Ryukyuan (spoken on Yoron island, Kagoshima, Japan) in comparison with some other languages. In addition, it aims to provide a theoretical treatment of Yoron Ryukyuan data by extending the previous FDG account. The analysis relies on distinctive features of the FDG architecture. The analysis lends support to cross-linguistic applicability of the FDG model.
