Annotation
O. suggests that transformational grammar is failing in not considering what information is being coded by linguistic units, that its failure to give attention to the use of language has a bad influence on theories of second language learning and teaching, and that the presupposing that language coding involves both complex linguistic forms and complex sets of extralinguistic information is essential to an adequate theory of second language learning.
