Linguistic borrowing concerns the incorporation of a structure or form from one language system (the source language, SL) to another (the recipient language, RL). The introduction to this special issue of JoP looks into various strands of research that require scholarly attention and illustrate a wide variety of pragmatic borrowing phenomena.
