Since intonation has no power of expressing fully specified emotive meanings but serves as a means of indicating the activity dimension of effects, P. proposes an intermediary level of description which would contain abstract entities devoid of any referential meaning, and which would refer to the potential of individual intonation contours to reflect a given activity level of an effect.
