This introductory book on the relations between philosophy and linguistics is written from a philosophical, and not from a linguistic or logical point of view. The author makes a distinction between philosophy of language, linguistic philosophy, and philosophy of linguistics. Throughout the book, we find the author's positive attitude towards a pragmatically oriented linguistics and his negative attitude towards autonomous syntax, semantic syntax, and autonomous semantics.
