The speech act verbs of ordinary language are said to emphasize various relevant aspects of a reported utterance (e.g. attitude, position in discourse, etc.). An examination of some Danish speech act verbs demonstrates the fitness of the model presented in Fillmore (1969: 'Verbs of judging') for contrastive studies.
