Speech reality does not fit the classical analytic approach that takes the phoneme as simple, social interaction as complex. The latter can be seen as more primitive and basic: e.g. animal communication has similar interactional devices, whereas its phonetic realisations cannot easily be integrated into a general phonetic matrix.
