An attempt to show how some formalization of appropriateness conditions and pragmatic relations concerning the speech act of asserting could be possible. The notion 'assumption' is introduced; on this basis 'presupposition' and 'implicature' are defined and compared; consequently, presupposition cancellation in negative sentences is dealt with.
