One of the first studies to make systematic use of Ducrot's theory of argumentation. It is a semantic description of the operator 'même' as a single morpheme and in compound expressions. The hypothesis is that a proposition with 'même' is presented by the speaker as an argument for an explicit or implicit conclusion, that argument being stronger than preceding arguments.
