R. outlines a conceptual framework for text and sentence description. Every utterance of a text is ascribed both a semantic and a pragmatic function. From a pragmatic angle, R. presents a revised theme-rheme system on the sentence level and a distinction between goal and auxiliary function on the suprasentential level. Auxiliary functions are e.g. securing comprehension, acceptance, co-operation, etc..
