A statement of the linguistic foundations of TEXAN, a project for automatic text analysis. The model assigns interpretations to utterances in a text on the basis of text knowledge and world knowledge. Central in this respect are 'text acts', i.e. speech acts that show a connection of illocutionary types and propositional types typical and specific for a text type. One text type is analyzed, viz. agreement texts.
