On some problems with the meaning of subordinate clauses. An attempt to show how J.R. Ross's performative hypothesis might help to account for the special problems posed by reason adverbials, R. discusses the derivation of 'though' clauses within a declarative sentence framework and the relevance of these insights for other types of adverbials.
