A collection of articles, among which 'grammaire des insultes' (pp. 239-314). R. shows that in many cases the formal properties of French 'nouns of quality' (e.g. ' Cet imbécile de ...',= ' That fool of a ...') can be better accounted for by a semantic or pragmatic analysis than by syntactic rules.
