Annotation

An attempt to show that the raw data of everyday conversation can be analyzed rigorously. The properties 'nonterminality' and 'conditional relevance' are identified to explain one formulation of conversational openings. Some of its interactional consequences are suggested. The sequencing structure of conversational openings is related to their function.
