Annotation
An attempt to construct a coherent theory of meaning, based on Grice's distinction between speaker-meaning and utterance-meaning. Within the realm of speaker-meaning, S. introduces the notion of 'mutual knowledge', the body of knowledge shared by speaker and hearer. Separate chapters deal with the relation between speaker-meaning and speech acts, and between utterance-meaning and convention.
