Annotation

The main argument in favor of abstracting from the context and from the communicative nature of language use in linguistics is that a complete account would require encyclopaedic knowledge. S. argues that this argument holds for completely developed languages but not for restricted languages. Therefore he singles out child language as a field of investigation in view of a theory of language use.
