Annotation

Katz and others have argued that semantic interpretation rules for actives and passives need only refer to their deep syntactic representations. S. argues that Katz does not do justice to linguistic expressions as instruments in communicative interaction. A study from this point of view should take as its data the 'pragmatic occurrences' of linguistic expressions as they can be observed in the actual use of language.
