Scollon, Roland. 1976. Conversations with a one year old: A case study of developmental foundations of syntax. Hawaï UP. xiv + 238 pp.

Annotation

S. argues for a holistic approach to language development in which one should not strictly adhere to traditional boundaries such as those between phonology and syntax, syntax and discourse, or structure and function. This longitudinal, observational study focuses on phonology, intonation, discourse redundancies, discourse, types of construction, the structure of constructions, and the functional context of constructions (including sections on the development of speech acts and speech event structures).
