S. tries to show that in order to find a basis for an explanation of such phenomena as topic, comment, focus, communicative dynamism, etc., it is useful to introduce the distinction between contextually bound and non-bound elements of the semantic representation of sentences. 'Context' refers not only to the preceeding verbal context, but also to the structuring of the universe of discourse at the given time-point of the utterance.
