After reviewing some pragmatic notions, S. argues that Chomsky's use of the term 'presupposition' is misleading and that his 'range of permissible focus' is determined by the hierarchy of communicative dynamism of the sentence. Further, it is argued that a semantically-based generative description without global constraints and semantically relevant transformations is possible.
