Annotation

To analyze why doctors and patients so frequently fail to understand each other, a conceptual framework is needed which captures the various factors involved in the success or failure of verbal communication. The author presents a framework for the systematic linguistic analysis of doctor-patient conversations and examines a specific case of misunderstanding in the light of the suggested framework.
