Annotation

This paper presents the first steps in the development of a framework for the systematic description of linguistic interaction between child and adult caretakers. It is based on the analysis of longitudinal recordings of spontaneous conversation between children and their parents. In the final section, the scheme is used in a contrastive analysis of two samples of mother-child talk which, it is suggested, provide evidence for parental use of different strategies of interaction.
