A discussion and critique of the concept of ‘domain of language behavior’ or ‘domain of variance in language behavior’, as developed in sociolinguistics from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s as a theoretical construct that could help explain the language choices of multilingual speakers in multilingual societies and especially code-switching.
