This volume re-examines the complex linguistic situation in Southern Africa -especially in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe- in the light of changing socio-political conditions. The papers are divided in five sections that respectively deal with: language policy; language planning; the analysis of social interaction; applied sociolinguistics; and language and cultural studies.
