This paper deals with exogamy-based obligatory multilingualism in the Vaupes River region in northwest Amazonia and in particular with the influences of East Tucanoan languages on Tariana (North Arawak) grammatical structure, phonology and semantics. It also considers independent Tariana innovations and phenomena of language attrition.
