Annotation

This article explores the factors defining the emergence of the Karuk discourse marker káruma and the contributions of the particle to discourse organization, in particular information highlighting. It thus adds to the cross-linguistic inventory of discourse marker functions and effects. Furthermore, it also uses the Mental Spaces model of conceptual structures to account for relationships between narrator and audience.
