This study uses Fishman's Graded Intergenerational Disruption Scale (GIDS) to examine the extent of language shift in Chingoni, Chilomwe and Chiyao, three Malawian languages, and their need for reversal support. Chingoni language shift appears irreversable; without serious intergenerational heritage language transmission, Chilomwe needs full reversal support; and Chiyao is only undergoing minor language shift.
