Due to sustained interaction between local Yi and Han in southwest China, the Yi minority language and local Chinese varieties have blended into a new code-mixing language labelled Tuanjie hua. The use of this new language appears restricted by a range of social factors: contact intensity, social situation, education, policy and power.
