This paper discusses how syncretism in the Kaqchikel ritual speech of the Guatemalan confraternities of San Juan Sacatepéquez, helps to better comprehend the preservation of indigenous spirituality notwithstanding permanent Catholic Church pressure since 16th century colonization (cfr incorporation and application of Spanish borrowings, and Catholic doctrine features in indigenous prayers).
