Annotation

This article demonstrates how Mexican Romani-Spanish bilinguals have copied various uses of the Spanish verb estar in Romani, employing the almost archaic 3d person subject clitic pronouns. It is argued that albeit the duplication of Spanish estar has made Romani more intricate, the originating convergence may be regarded as an all-out simplification for the bilingual speakers (Matras 2009).
