Annotation

Language variation stances are effected dialogically, and are vital in fixing speech communities and related identities. Variations amid Kawaiisu speakers in the Californian Tehachapi area, index wider community individuality appraisal. In outlining a teaching course for Pomo communities in Californian Lake County, by contrast, the Pomoan language variations are presented as a menace to community unity because they put up barriers to understanding and access. The proposition that language planners classify that variation into one umbrella language with seven dialects was conceptualized as going back to a past when all Pomos could facilely interact with each other.
