This book deals with linguistic behavior of Italian immigrants in Australia, examining especially the factors determining language maintenance or loss and it contributes to a general theory of language in emigration, as the results are discussed in the light of the existing literature on community languages in Australia and language development of Italian immigrants in several parts of the world, in particular the U.S.A., Canada, Latin America and some European countries.
